Marcus Rashford is ready to help Ruben Amorim save Man United's summer transfer window

At the beginning of this season it seemed unthinkable that Marcus Rashford would ever end his association with Manchester United.

Now, it seems like it is inevitable. The arrival of Ruben Amorim and subsequent lack of game time that would follow for Rashford has made an exit more likely than ever before, but in doing so he could really help his boyhood club.

United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has made no secret about the need to cut costs at Old Trafford to refund another rebuild of the squad. However, it is not only redundancies that will fund Amorim's transfer budget, player sales are vital too.

The most lucrative sales come in the form of academy graduates as they represent 'pure profit' under the Premier League Financial Fair Play (FFP) guidelines. This rather crude term effectively means that because it cost United nothing to purchase the player originally, they can bank the entire fee received and henceforth boost their finances.

Rashford, of course, fits under the pure profit banner as an academy graduate and should a club be willing to pay £40m for him in the summer, that would go a long way to helping Amorim. The problem is less the initial fee for Rashford but rather his wages.

A club like Barcelona may hold an interest in signing the 27-year-old but £350,000 per week is a tidy sum of money that the La Liga giants do not currently have. But, according to a recent report from The Mirror, Rashford could be ready to help United, and in turn Amorim, out.
