Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes have highlighted Erik ten Hag's next task at Manchester United

If goals are the lifeblood of a football team then Manchester United have a dodgy ticker that could use some special care and attention to get it pumping fully.

Erik ten Hag has done brilliantly this season. A few weeks before he arrived, Ralf Rangnick claimed that United needed 'open heart surgery' to fix all the issues at the club and that it would take years before they would be competing at the top level again. The Dutchman must be a master surgeon because United have not only ended their trophy drought, they could still very feasibly win a treble and have flirted with a title challenge all in less than a year.

Not many disagreed with Rangnick's proclamation at the time when things looked particularly bleak for the club but all it took was some long-awaited competency in hiring an excellent coach and backing him to the hilt for things to turn around. There have been some tragic lows, even as recent as two weeks ago, but for the first time in a decade the outlook is bright and the trajectory is upwards.

What makes the turnaround even more impressive is that Ten Hag has improved practically every aspect of the side without a proper striker. Anthony Martial has hardly been available and has well lost the early spark he showed at the start of the campaign. Cristiano Ronaldo was never suited to his team and ensured his departure with a pathetic interview. Wout Weghorst has done an admirable job but has been poor in front of goal. Marcus Rashford is much more at home on the left wing where the majority of his goals have come from.

Luckily for United, Ten Hag has managed to breathe new confidence into Rashford and he has become the best possible version
