Michael O’Neil provides update on Jordan Thompson’s status at Stoke City

Last night was not an evening to remember for Stoke City who went away to Reading and lost 2-1 with the winning goal being an own goal from Harwood-Bellis.

To make matters worse, the Potters also lost Jordan Thompson who had to come off on a stretcher in the 33rd minute following a late challenge from Reading’s Ovie Ejaria which saw him pick up a yellow card.

Speaking about the challenge, Stoke boss Michael O’Neil told Stoke-on-Trent Live: “It was a poor challenge – the trailing leg does most of the damage, and when that is the case you have to question the intent.”

O’Neil went on to provide an update on Thompson’s injury as he said: “We don’t know the situation yet, he will have to have an X-ray tomorrow. Dependant upon the verdict of that, I would suggest that he is going to be out of action for a period of time which is a real disappointment.

“We will just have to see the results when they come back, but it doesn’t look great.”

This latest injury makes matters worse for Stoke who are currently missing the likes of Harry Souttar, Nick Powell and Mario Vrancic.

The Verdict:

This latest injury is another blow to Stoke City and by the sounds of it, Thompson is likely to be sidelined for a while once he has an X-ray to confirm things.

With Stoke currently 15th in the league with nothing to play for at this stage, the end of the season probably can’t come soon enough for them as they will finally have some time for rest and recovery.

Obviously the Potters want to end the season on a high if they can do so but with six games to go and another name of their injury list, the fans probably have to prepare themselves for a less exciting end to the season.

The hope is that Thompson’s injury won’t be as severe as initially
