Marco Silva takes swipe at ‘lucky’ Arsenal after Fulham lose at the Emirates

Marco Silva took a swipe at ‘lucky’ Arsenal after Fulham suffered a 2-1 defeat at the Emirates.

Arsenal news, exclusives and analysis

Newly-promoted Fulham looked set to end Arsenal’s 100% start to the season when Aleksandar Mitrovic dispossessed Gabriel and put the visitors ahead after half-time.

But Mikel Arteta’s side mounted an impressive comeback, first equalising through captain Martin Odegaard and then finding a late winner from Gabriel.

The turnaround maintained Arsenal’s perfect start to the Premier League season and saw them move back to the top of the table.

Silva felt his Fulham side ‘deserved’ at least a point, however, and said Arsenal were the beneficiaries of two ‘lucky’ goals.

‘All the credit to my players, from the first to the last minute, our desire to raise to the challenge was there,’ he said.

‘Second-half was tough for us on the ball. The pressure from Arsenal was strong but we continued to create chances. We can do better but we deserved to get more from this game.

‘They [Arsenal] didn’t have many clear chances, they had two goals and both were lucky goals. It was bad luck for us.

‘I didn’t see many clear chances for Arsenal. After 1-0 when the game seemed to be more open they had luck to score with the deflection. Even after they scored the winner we tried until the end.

‘I hope the bad luck we had this evening will go our way in the future.’

Arsenal boss Arteta, meanwhile, was delighted with his team’s response to going behind, although he refused to say his side were at the start of a title challenge.
