Marcelo Bielsa sends warning to Manchester United over fired up Leeds

Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa is hoping his players can use the motivation of facing rivals Manchester United at Elland Road on Sunday afternoon to reignite their season.

Leeds, who were beaten 5-1 by United at Old Trafford on the opening day of the season back in August, have failed to repeat the success that they enjoyed in their first season back in the Premier League during 2020-21.

The West Yorkshire outfit, who have not beaten the Reds in the Premier League since September 2002, are currently 15th in the table, six points clear of the relegation places, meaning they are not out of the woods just yet in regards to their survival hopes.

A run of three games without a win has scuppered their chances of building a gap on the bottom three in recent weeks, but Bielsa hopes the prospect of facing Ralf Rangnick's side can serve his players with the guile and momentum that they're in need of.

"It is a classic game is always a challenge that's very motivating," said Bielsa.

Furthermore, the Argentine, who watched his side lose 3-0 to Everton at Goodison Park last time out, has hailed Leeds' fans for the support they have offered to the players during a period of difficulty.

He continued: "It's not what I would like, but it's what the fans give always. They always support the team unconditionally.

"It's difficult to imagine a support better or bigger than the one we have already received.

"The presence of a classic opponent increases the enthusiasm, it's going to be precious to witness it. Of course, we think more about what we can give to the public than what we receive of them."

Meanwhile, Bielsa has confirmed that club captain Liam Cooper and midfield enforcer Kalvin Phillips will both miss Sunday's game
