Marcelo Bielsa could be Manchester United's secret weapon in giving Erik ten Hag what he needs

Several Manchester United players enjoyed an excellent international break and few more so than Facundo Pellistri.

The 21-year-old won two caps for Uruguay as they picked up four points in their 2026 World Cup qualification campaign, including a first win over Brazil since 2001 in the early hours of Wednesday morning. It was only Marcelo Bielsa's fourth game in charge but already the former Leeds United manager is working his magic on the players.

Pellistri is already showing clear improvement under Bielsa's leadership and that will also benefit United. Erik ten Hag demands his players attack with intensity and has admitted he wants his side to be 'the best transition team in the world.'

Few are more devastating in transition than a Bielsa team, and the Argentinian's influence was clear against Brazil with Pellistri heaping praise on him after the historic win.

“The keys were intensity, not letting the Brazilian players be comfortable and hurting them every time we have transitions, that was a bit of what we did and that’s why we won the game,” Pellistri told ESPN. “We were motivated to break that streak, we knew we could do it. It broke, so it’s an incredible day, we’re very happy and we really enjoyed it.

“We are a young group and we are very excited. I have felt very good (with Bielsa), what is most visible is the intensity, and we are happy for these types of games, which are the ones that one always dreams of playing with the national team.”
