Marcel Sabitzer gives five reasons why he likes working under Erik ten Hag at Manchester United

Marcel Sabitzer says he likes the balance of fun and focus Erik ten Hag brings to Manchester United and says he prefers playing football in England more than in Germany.

Bayern Munich loanee Sabitzer was brought in on January transfer deadline day amid Christian Eriksen’s long-term injury and has gone on to tally three goals and an assist in 14 outings, also lifting the League Cup in February.

Two of those goals came in the Europa League first leg quarter-final against Sevilla, a tie United went on to lose 5-2 on aggregate following Thursday night’s 3-0 defeat in Spain. Sabitzer started the game in the absence of the suspended Bruno Fernandes but could be benched upon his return in Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final with Brighton.

His future beyond the end of the season is unclear, with Thomas Tuchel now at the Bayern helm following the dismissal of Julian Nagelsmann, under whom Sabitzer started just seven Bundesliga games prior to his Old Trafford switch.

It seems the Austrian is enjoying his stint under Ten Hag, telling the FA website about five aspects he likes about his management style. He said of his manager: “He is a very detailed coach so he gives everything for the game plan, for the training sessions. He is especially a good guy and he gives us a good game plan and gives us confidence.

“And he’s clear in his mind, you know. There is a good mix of having a bit of fun, but when you’re on the pitch, you have to be 100 per cent focused. And you feel that in every moment. We’re very happy that he’s our manager.”

It is assumed Sabitzer will become a bit-part player now Eriksen has returned to action with Fernandes and Casemiro completing the first-choice
