Marc Skinner ruing missed chances after Manchester United's draw with Arsenal

Manchester United manager Marc Skinner believes his side let three points slip in a 1-1 draw with Arsenal in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.

Alessia Russo had put the Red Devils ahead early in the first half and were on their way to a crucial victory over the league-leading Gunners when Katie McCabe was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Ella Toone had early missed the target when one-on-one with Arsenal keeper Manuela Zinsberger before Stina Blackstenius’ late goal saved the home side’s blushes.

“We’ve been away to Bridgwater [in the FA Cup], a difficult pitch to play on. We came to Chelsea [in the Conti Cup], that intense game, and lost, and had to take that psychological knock,” Skinner said.

“We came to Arsenal, away again, and deserved three points, I think. They’re big moments, we have to take them.

“We know Ella Toone, she’ll do 100 of those in training and score everyone. She’ll be upset for not taking that moment.

“For us, it’s part of the game. We’ll be in the position where we want to be fighting in and amongst these top three.”

Manchester United are now level on points with second-placed Chelsea and are five points behind Arsenal, with both having played 13 games.

Chelsea have two games in hand as they take on Manchester City tomorrow, before the top two battle it out next weekend with the Blues potentially able to overtake Arsenal.

For Manchester United, they also face a derby next weekend and are again away as they travel to the blue side of Manchester as third plays fifth.
