Manchester United transfer tax, Harry Maguire's future and why they splashed the cash late on

Manchester United brought the curtain down on the summer transfer window with two deadline day signings yesterday.

After confirming the £85.1million capture of Brazilian international Antony from Ajax early in the morning, the Reds secured their second signing of deadline day in the form of Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka. The Slovakian has joined the club on a season-long loan, with the option to make the deal permanent next summer.

Their late arrivals at Old Trafford meant that United finished the window with six new signings, following the earlier additions of Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen and Casemiro. Manager Erik ten Hag will now be aiming to make the most of the squad he has, as he aims to continue implementing his vision and plan in M16.
