Manchester United transfer news RECAP with Donny van de Beek 'interest' and Ronaldo update

Manchester United now have 16 days to wait until they're next in action but at least they got their Europa League campaign going on Thursday with a victory over Sheriff Tiraspol.

With Sunday's match against Leeds postponed due to the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II on Monday, United won't be in action again until they face neighbours Manchester City in early October after the international break.

Erik ten Hag's side saw out the first section of the season by bouncing back from their loss to Real Sociedad last week and beating Sheriff in Moldova 2-0, standing them in good stead to make the knockout stages.

Jadon Sancho bagged the first with a fine finish following some lovely interplay, while Cristiano Ronaldo opened his account for the season from the penalty spot.

It was a good reaction from Sancho after not being called up to Gareth Southgate's final England squad before the World Cup. Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Dean Henderson made the cut.

Today's big talking point: Should Ronaldo start the next game after his goal in the Europa League? Have your say here.

Reports suggest United are ready to divert their attentions from Frenkie de Jong.

FDJ was identified as a priority target this summer - but stayed at Barcelona.

United eventually signed Casemiro from Real Madrid and, while Christian Eriksen has been superb in central midfield this season, the Premier League giants are still thought to be in the market for another addition in that area.

Give Me Sport claim Brighton starlet Moises Caicedo, 20, will become their main target.

Erik ten Hag and key figures at United already have one eye on January.
