Manchester United transfer news RECAP Erik ten Hag gives team news update and takeover latest

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is relishing Thursday night's Europa League clash with Barcelona at the Camp Nou.

After finishing second in their Europa League group back in November, United must now navigate their way through the knockout round play-offs to reach the last-16 of the competition. Barcelona have dropped into the competition after exiting the Champions League at the group stage.

Both clubs have contributed to some memorable and iconic fixtures in Europe over the years, with United's Champions League semi-final triumph over the Spanish giants in 2008 marking the last time the Reds came out on top. They will be determined to register a positive result in the first-leg ahead of the reverse fixture at Old Trafford next week.

United will be without a collection of senior stars in the Camp Nou, including Lisandro Martinez and Marcel Sabitzer, both of whom are suspended. Scott McTominay, Anthony Martial and Antony also remain unavailable through injury.

Meanwhile, Manchester City climbed to the top of the Premier League table on Wednesday night with a 3-1 win over title rivals Arsenal. United are now five points behind both City and the Gunners, though the latter do have a game in hand on both United and City.
