Manchester United have been knocked out of the FA Cup after they lost 8-7 on penalties to Championship side Middlesbrough at Old Trafford on Friday night.

Ralf Rangnick's side dominated the match and should have taken an early lead when Cristiano Ronaldo missed a first-half penalty, but would soon get their goal when Jadon Sancho netted soon after with a deflected strike.

Boro got back into the match through a highly controversial goal when Duncan Watmore clearly handled the ball in the build-up before Matt Crooks poked in at the back-post for the equalising goal.

United continued to waste an abundance of good scoring opportunities before the match eventually went to penalties. Both sides were clinical from the spot, with Anthony Elanga the only player who failed to convert from 12-yards during the shootout as his side were dumped out.
