Manchester United held Chelsea to a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford after Cristiano Ronaldo bailed the hosts out again.

United's hopes of reaching the Champions League look to be well and truly over after they were held by the Blues. After a lacklustre first half, Chelsea took the lead in the second thanks to a Marcos Alonso strike.

Their advantage was short-lived as Ronaldo beat the offside trap to fire past Edouard Mendy and ensure the points were shared. United are now five points behind fourth-placed Arsenal who have two games in hand.

Before kick-off fans protested against the ownership of the Glazer family with banners also seen inside the ground. Ralf Rangnick is also considering a job offer to become the manager of the Austrian national team.

Nemanja Matic thinks Manchester United's performance against Chelsea was an 'improvement'.

United welcomed Chelsea to Old Trafford on Thursday night. Chelsea took the lead in the second half of the match through Marcos Alonso, but United immediately responded to the visitors breaking the deadlock with a Cristiano Ronaldo equaliser.

Although Chelsea were the better side throughout the match, they were wasteful in the final third. Thomas Tuchel's side had 64 per cent possession and six shots on target compared to United's three on target yet they couldn't get the three points.
