Manchester United transfer news LIVE Jurrien Timber deal updates and Frenkie de Jong latest

Erik ten Hag will continue his search to improve Manchester United's squad today ahead of the new Premier League season.

United will be hopeful of getting deals done sooner rather than later having seen several players leave the club at the end of their contracts. Jurrien Timber is thought to be one of the Dutch manager's key targets this summer.

The 20-year-old became a stalwart in the Ajax team managed by Ten Hag last season. His 43 appearances helped lead the Amsterdam club to the Eredivisie title and it is no surprise that the talented youngster is being linked with United.

United's main goal this summer will be to improve their central midfield options and Frenkie de Jong is the man Ten Hag wants to bring in. De Jong is believed to be happy in Barcelona, however, Ten Hag is thought to be confident that he can persuade his fellow countryman to join United.

Elsewhere today, Harry Maguire will be looking to dust himself down after being involved in England's 1-0 defeat to Hungary in the Nations League. Dominik Szoboszlai scored the only goal of the game, converting a controversial penalty conceded by Chelsea's Reece James.

Manchester United target Frenkie de Jong admits he plays in a "completely different way" for the Netherlands than for Barcelona.

De Jong started in the Netherlands's stunning 4-1 Nations League win at Belgium on Friday night as they continue to make strides under coach Louis van Gaal ahead of the World Cup.

Van Gaal opted for a back three formation consisting of Nathan Ake, Virgil van Dijk and United target Jurrien Timber, with De Jong ahead of them in the middle of a three-man midfield.
