Manchester United are set to make a renewed offer for Frenkie de Jong
Manchester United will make a renewed transfer proposal for Barcelona's Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
The clubs are still around £15m apart in valuation following United's opening gambit of £51m plus bonuses but de Jong is Erik ten Hag's priority along with free agent Christian Eriksen who has an offer from Tottenham.
However, Ajax's Dutch defender Jurrien Timber, another of United's targets this summer, is to sign a new deal with the Eredivisie side.
Ten Hag wants United to sort out the de Jong transfer as a matter of urgency because he regards the Dutch midfielder as the key player in the style revolution he intends to bring to Old Trafford.
Once De Jong is signed from Barcelona, he will then decide which players he needs with the remainder of the budget.
Whilst their bitter rivals Liverpool and Manchester City have set about bringing in reinforcements this window, the Red Devils are still yet to make any signings.
And with one of the biggest transfer stories of the window still yet to really gain any traction, United fans' wait for a new face at Old Trafford appears set to continue for a while longer.
