Erik ten Hag will then just have a Wembley FA Cup final against Manchester City standing between him and the summer transfer window, with a number of targets already having been drawn up by the United boss.

United may need to change their plans for bringing in a new centre-forward, however, with the club now working under the assumption that Tottenham will not part ways with Harry Kane.

The England captain had been Ten Hag's preferred candidate, although United are also keeping tabs on Napoli's Victor Osimhen, Benfica's Goncalo Ramos, Ajax's Mohammed Judus, Atalanta's Rasmus Hojlund and Eintracht Frankfurt's Randal Kolo Muani.

It comes as the club's takeover continues to rumble on. Some reports last week had suggested a preferred bidder was to be announced on Friday, although no update came.
