Manchester United told to 'go and pay' for Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips

Manchester United have been told not to question the decision to sign 'big upgrades' Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips.

The Reds midfield has faced scrutiny this season as the department has been susceptible to problems during their mid-season collapse.

Ahead of the summer transfer window, United have highlighted the midfield as a big problem and one they're looking to bolster with Rice among the list of targets.

The Manchester Evening News reported in September that United have pinpointed Rice as their number one transfer target to strengthen their holding midfield options ahead of this summer's transfer window.

His England teammate, Phillips, has been mooted with a move to Manchester after playing a starring role in the Three Lions push for the European Championships last summer

And former Premier League forward Kevin Campbell believes they shouldn't hesitate to sign both England internationals.

He told Football Insider: "Just pay it.

"Don’t even question it because they are both top, top players. Just go and pay the money, it’s not like they haven’t got it.

"Two players who are both England internationals. There should be no hesitation. Just go and pay that money.

"That is where the problem is at Manchester United. It is in the midfield.

"I know Fred and McTominay have done a decent job but let’s be honest, Phillips and Rice are a big upgrade.

"If they do that, their engine room looks like a Rolls-Royce. They are two top-quality home-grown players."
