Manchester United told Erik ten Hag will ignore £100m temptation in transfer window

Manchester United have been told that Erik ten Hag will focus on developing youth players as he attempts to rebuild the club's fortunes next season.

Ten Hag was named as the permanent successor to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last month with the former Ajax man signing a deal which will keep him at the club until 2025. There is also the option of extending that deal by a further year should the club wish to.

It is no secret that United are needing to bring in and ship out plenty of players in the summer should they wish to challenge once again at the top end of the table. But according to ex-Arsenal man Nigel Winterburn, United cannot afford to follow the same model which has resulted in their current predicament.

Speaking to Paddy Power, Winterburn said: "No club can continue chucking £100m on individual players, it’s unsustainable. Going forward, Manchester United will look for players to be brought through the youth team and look at those younger players that are good value and can take the club forward and handle the atmosphere of the club.

"If the rumours are true, that Ten Hag wants to bring the young players from Ajax, then it makes sense because he knows those players and their temperament. He’ll want to establish his style of play; he knows the type of players he wants to bring in that will suit his style of play so you can never make a judgement until the manager is in there and has made his signings.

"Sometimes you think you’ll have found the perfect match for your club, but he turns out to be a complete flop. And other times, you take a player you think might do a job, and suddenly, he springs to life
