Manchester United told condition on which Paul Pogba will sign new contract

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba will stay at the club if 'they are going places' — according to a former Premier League striker.

Pogba has impressed since coming back from injury for United this season, but there has so far been no discussions on a new contract.

The Frenchman will be free to leave the Theatre of Dreams at the end of the season if he does not sign a new deal and he is widely expected to depart, with Juventus, PSG and Real Madrid touted for moves.

And, speaking to Football Insider, Gabby Agbonlahor believes that Pogba will do what is best for him come the summer.

He said: "Man United are not just going backwards, they’ve fallen off a cliff.

"They have been dreadful. The performances of Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes have been inconsistent.

"Marcus Rashford and Sancho are not doing enough. If I was a betting man I wouldn’t bet on Man United finishing fourth.

"Sancho has looked a bit better but I’m thinking of the Sancho we saw at Dortmund. It’s not enough. He should be the main man at Man United, he should be getting on the ball and making things happen. Don’t be in and out of games, can you have a good 90 minutes, not just 20 minutes?

"The only bright spark recently has been Pogba’s return. He’s been their best player since he’s come back, he’s the only one turning up.

"Pogba will now do what is best for Pogba. If he thinks Man United can go places, he’ll stay but if he thinks they are going backwards I’m sure he’ll leave.

"Maybe he wants a different challenge, not just staying at Man United who might not have Champions League football.

"I’m sure he will use his contract situation to try and get a move."

United return to action on Sunday when they face Leeds in the Premier League.
