Manchester United to offer Marcus Rashford new contract and other rumours

Marcus Rashford could be offered a fresh deal despite his downturn in form, according to reports.

The attacker has had a dismal season at Old Trafford, putting in displays that radiate a lack of confidence and self-belief. The England international has started just one of the last six league games and hasn’t found the net since January.

Rashford has scored five times in 27 matches for United this season. He is on course to miss out on reaching double figures for the first time since breaking into the first team in early 2016.

His existing contract keeps in Manchester until 2024 should a one-year extension be triggered. However, it seems United are willing to reassert their trust in the striker by offering him a new deal that would replace his current one.

This is according to ESPN, which also claims that this comes after the club had tried to persuade Rashford to reduce his off-field work to concentrate more on his game. This suggestion was seemingly rejected by the player.

United players are unhappy at the standard of coaching at the club, and have been for some while, the report says. It’s not certain whether Rashford wants to stay on at Old Trafford with worry also over how highly the next permanent United boss will rate him.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mail says United are keeping tabs on Christian Eriksen. Questions were asked over whether the midfielder would reach the heights of his previous standards following his on-field cardiac arrest at Euro 2020.
