Manchester United ‘to axe midfielder’ to make room for Sofyan Amrabat and more rumours

Manchester United will reportedly show Fred the door in order to create space for the arrival of Sofyan Amrabat.

The Reds midfielder is being linked with a switch to Galatasaray while Fulham have also penned an interest in the Brazilian. Erik ten Hag could sell the 30-year-old, who has a year left on his contract, in order to raise fund for new arrivals.

Rasmus Hojlund is firmly on United’s radar with the club hopeful of landing him before the season starts. Meanwhile, there have been repeated links with a potential move for Amrabat.

The Fiorentina midfielder starred for Morocco in the World Cup and was of interest to Ten Hag in January. 90min says United would try to offload Fred first before pursuing Amrabat if funds allow.

Around £107m of United’s £120m summer budget has been spent on Andre Onana and Mason Mount with sales so far only adding an extra £20m or so to the kitty. The report says United remain in talks with Fiorentina in case the opportunity to buy opens up, although Atletico Madrid are also keeping a very keen eye on the situation.

Meanwhile, talkSPORT says Tom Heaton is likely to stay at United into next season. The 37-year-old had his 12-month contract extension triggered by United this summer and with David de Gea gone, Ten Hag apparently wants to keep him in-house.

The goalkeeper is eager to play more minutes and a loan away has been suggested, although this latest report indicates that is an option that may have passed on by.
