Manchester United to assess futures of four players after transfer window

Manchester United are planning to assess the futures of at least four players after the transfer window has closed.

United have prioritised transfer activity, as well as a contract extension for manager Erik ten Hag, this summer but are mindful there are a number of contract situations to resolve with players they are provisionally planning to keep.

Due to the 13-month strategic review and then a two-month wait for Sir Jim Ratcliffe's minority stakeholding to be fully ratified, United did not negotiate any player renewals last season.

Scott McTominay and Harry Maguire are both out of contract next year but the club has the option of an additional year with both players. The pair were available for transfer last year but had impressive seasons.

United would trigger the extensions in the deals of McTominay and Maguire if they are still at the club in September as they retain high resale value. United accepted a £30million offer for Maguire from West Ham last year and rejected a separate £30m bid from the club for McTominay.

Interest in Bruno Fernandes could lead to an improved contract for the United captain, despite the maximum expiry date of 2027 in his existing deal. United's FA Cup victory and subsequent qualification for the Europa League have decreased the chances of Fernandes leaving.

Amad's standing has risen this calendar year and, like McTominay and Maguire, he is about to enter the final year of his contract. United have a plus-one option to retain him until 2026.

Victor Lindelof, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Christian Eriksen and Hannibal Mejbri are out of contract next year.
