Manchester United target Victor Osimhen has told Erik ten Hag exactly what he wants to hear

Two more goals for Victor Osimhen on Wednesday evening took him to 23 for the season and no doubt caught the eye of Erik ten Hag.

The Dutchman's interest in signing a world-class striker this summer has been well-documented, and although MEN Sport understands Harry Kane has been earmarked as the prime summer target, Osimhen's name will likely be just underneath it and Tottenham's reported unwillingness to sell could see the England star's name crossed off.

Osimhen and Napoli cruised past Eintracht Frankfurt in the last-16 of the Champions League, returning from Germany with a two-goal advantage and firing home three more at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium for good measure. As ever, it was the Nigerian at the centre of an attacking unit that oscillates around their star.

A lack of experience in the latter stages of the competition leaves Luciano Spalletti's side as relative dark horses in Europe, but domestic matters couldn't be more different with an 18-point gap all but handing them a third Scudetto. Osimhen has 19 goals in the league and is nailed on to win the Capocannoniere award - literally 'head gunner' - for Serie A's top-scorer.

"Being the highest goalscorer is actually not my main priority," he told ESPN of his personal season back in February. "The team comes first before my personal ambition. If I win it, that's fine but what I want to do is try to win trophies with my team. As long as the team is winning, it doesn't matter to me who gets the goals or whether I win top scorer or not."
