Manchester United takeover latest as Sir Jim Ratcliffe handed minor setback

Manchester United have yet to make any official announcement as to the results of the 'strategic review' but it is widely expected Sir Jim Ratcliffe will enter the boardroom.

Over the weekend, a frustrated Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani announced he had withdrawn from the takeover process due to the Glazers' valuation of the club. This leaves Ratcliffe as the only bidder still in the process.

Earlier this month, the INEOS founder was thought to have restructured his bid and was instead proposing to purchase a minority stake in United worth 25 per cent of the club. Despite this news, any hope the process may be coming to a conclusion could be wide of the mark.

Take a look at the latest takeover headlines below.

According to talkSPORT, official confirmation of Ratcliffe joining the United board could be delayed for another few weeks. The report claims a pre-arranged meeting on Thursday will see the takeover discussed 'high on the agenda'.

However, there is apparently no guarantees Ratcliffe's proposal will be put to a vote. The current owner of Nice is aiming to acquire overall control of the Reds eventually and is believed to be still in discussions with Raine Group about this goal.

INEOS have had a long-term objective to grow their standing in world sport and have enjoyed success in cycling with the INEOS Grenadiers and F1 at Mercedes but their ventures into football have been more understated. For many United fans, Nice has been seen as the standard bearer for what they can expect from Ratcliffe.
