Manchester United takeover latest as Sir Jim Ratcliffe 'threatens to walk away from Glazers demand'

One of Manchester United's prominent takeover hopefuls has reportedly threatened to walk away from the process if the Glazers persist with one of their demands.

United's future has been left firmly in the balance since the current owners announced they were launching a 'strategic review'. The American family has since been tight-lipped about the progress of the sale but we are aware Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani are interested in purchasing the club.

Both men have also avoided speaking publicly about the sale but earlier this week Ratcliffe did admit acquiring the Reds and then failing is not an option he is willing to consider due to the size of the club. However, there is a suggestion the INEOS founder may not even get to this stage.

In MEN Sport's latest takeover headlines, it seems the 70-year-old could be on the verge of pulling out.

According to NBC Sport journalist Phil Brown, the Glazers are currently demanding to have voting rights as well as remaining in the boardroom should Ratcliffe wish to complete his purchase of the club. In a tweet, Brown explained: "From what I understand, the Glazers are trying to convince INEOS to not just let them stay but to have voting rights on the board.

"INEOS have talked about walking away if they insist on this. INEOS, Raine and the Glazers have had talks over the last couple of weeks."

Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke believes the current Reds squad will be unaffected by the takeover saga which is dominating the club's boardroom.
