Manchester United supporters group gives update on protest ahead of Newcastle match

An update from Manchester United fan group The 1958 has been issued ahead of a planned protest against the Glazer family, due to take place prior to kick-off against Newcastle United this weekend.

In August, around 10,000 supporters protested against the Glazers before United's 2-1 victory over Liverpool, where fans voiced their discontent with the club's American owners.

Momentum for Sunday's protest has been building for a while, and despite United's recent upturn in results on the pitch, fans are adamant to continue to voice their anger at the Glazer family. Recent talk of a takeover bid from British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe had increased the support behind the recent protests, with fans hoping that the Glazers finally relinquish control over the club.

The 1958 fan group have now posted an update with a "rallying call", taking to social media to outline plans for the upcoming protest.

They posted the following message alongside an update of timings for the day: "PROTEST UPDATE FOR NEWCASTLE. Sunday we march at 1pm. Turn up. Be loud. Be United! The protests are working. The current actions from the club prove we are having an impact. We do not stop! Share, retweet and see you Sunday Reds! Keep believing".

Erik ten Hag's side had a successful mid-week Europa League clash against Omonia Nicosia, despite leaving it until the 93rd minute to score with their 34th attempt of the match. Ten Hag will be hoping that the atmosphere inside Old Trafford this weekend can help spur his players on against Newcastle, just as it did against Liverpool back in August.
