Gary Neville makes prediction over 'crucial' period for Glazers at Manchester United

Manchester United great Gary Neville has made a prediction over the Glazers ownership of the club ahead of what he sees as a "crucial" period of time.

Fan discontent with the Glazer family at United came to a head this summer, as supporters took part in large scale protests to rally against their current American owners. The Glazers have owned the club since 2005, yet supporter unrest over their ownership has been steadily building for some time.

The recent interest in buying the club from British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe has seen a slight cause for optimism among fans. Supporters have gone as far to suggest that a number of investment ventures are implemented at the club, including a revamp of Old Trafford — something that Sir Jim pointed to when he declared his interest in a long-term takeover.

Although Neville has publicly stated that Old Trafford's name should not be changed, he has not been shy when it comes to his criticism over the Glazer family. The former United defender has now shared his latest prediction over the future of the current owners.

Speaking on Sky Bet's The Overlap, he said: "The next few weeks are crucial for Manchester United, and that will define the mood at the club going into the World Cup period. Certainly, a month or two ago, the ownership protests and 'Glazer Out' movement was huge.

"I think the fact that Manchester United didn’t play for four weeks was helpful. I know there is still protest and anger from the fans, but it seems to have quietened down a little bit – the anger is still there underneath."
