Manchester United 'suffer' Harry Kane blow and other transfer rumours

Manchester United have reportedly been dealt a blow to their hopes of signing Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane this summer.

The Reds are after a new centre-forward to permanently fill the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo's controversial departure towards the end of last year, with Burnley's Wout Weghorst brought in on loan as a stop-gap until the end of the season. Manchester Evening News understands that Kane is one of the forwards United are currently monitoring ahead of the summer transfer window.

But, according to Football Insider [via The Hard Tackle], Kane's current club Tottenham have initiated contract talks to keep him in north London. The report adds that Spurs are "desperate to keep him at the club" with his current deal set to expire in 2024.

It adds the club are "ready to go all out to secure a new deal" with the England captain, although also says that convincing Kane to remain "won't be an easy task".

Elsewhere, Calciomecato claims Arsenal could pip United to the signing of Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. The Serbian, whose brother Vanja signed for United at the age of 17 in 2014 but failed to ever gain a work permit and play for the club, is said to have "collected offers of around €40million" with Arsenal, West Ham and Newcastle all interested in acquiring his services.

Like Kane, Milinkovic-Savic's contract also expires at the end of next season, with the report adding that a "fiery summer is expected" amid such fierce competition for the player's signature.
