Manchester United star Rasmus Hojlund takes subtle swipe at Liverpool after Atalanta defeat

Rasmus Hojlund celebrated Atalanta's surprise 3-0 Europa League win at Liverpool on Thursday night.

The 21-year-old, who signed for Manchester United from the Italian club last summer, kept a close eye on the match as his former side travelled to Merseyside in the quarter-finals. Jurgen Klopp's team have a lot to do in the second leg after struggling to get out of first gear against Atalanta.

Former West Ham striker Gianluca Scamacca netted twice before Maria Pasalic piled on more misery onto the hosts. Hojlund was quick to mark the victory on social media by sharing Atalanta's Instagram story which confirmed the full-time result.

He added the caption 'mola mia' with a lion emoji. The caption is a Bergamese phase that roughly translates to 'never give up' or 'stay strong.' Meanwhile, Liverpool conceded their first defeat at Anfield in 14 months.

"It was a really bad game, oh my God," said Klopp after the game. "We started well, really well and then didn’t continue. They broke, they scored and we just lost the plot a little bit. We were here and there in midfield, I didn’t recognise it.

"It was really strange but in football terms it was tactical discipline. There was a big chance for Darwin [Nunez] and then it was unlucky with Harvey, but they scored and we kept playing into their hands.

"We played a bad game and we deserved to lose. We must feel that now but we have exactly this night to feel bad about it and then we have to build up for Palace."
