Manchester United star Mary Earps hits back at accusations of being 'too busy' to meet fans

Mary Earps has hit back at a fan who accused her of being 'too busy and important' to meet supporters after Manchester United's Women's Super League victory over Everton.

The England shot-stopper showed her quality once again in their 5-0 rout at Walton Hall Park on Sunday. United's Melvine Malard, Nikita Parris and Rachel Williams were among the goalscorers in an emphatic win.

Earps also played a key role in the win, first with a huge stop to deny Hanna Bennison's effort from range in the first half. She was then there to bail out teammate Millie Turner when the defender was caught out by Nicoline Sorensen.

After the game, both sets of players dedicated a large chunk of time to supporters on the sidelines. The WSL is known for its accessibility to players and the fact fans are freely able to meet their heroes.

But, over the last couple of years, it has become an increasing problem. The rise of the Lionesses and growing numbers attending WSL matches means there has been a longstanding need to put a lid on expectations.

That need was further pushed to the forefront on Sunday when Earps was called out by a fan seemingly for not giving enough time to fans. One supporter commented on Manchester United's Instagram page: "Thankyou Ella Toone and Nikita Parris for stopping to meet my daughter today. It's a shame Mary Earps is far too busy and important to stop for her fans these days!"
