Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo jokes about Robbie Savage to son Charlie

Cristiano Ronaldo hasn't forgotten about facing off against Robbie Savage and he made sure to let his son Charlie know it.

United youngster Charlie Savage made his debut for the club in the Champions League dead rubber against Young Boys towards the end of last year, as his proud and emotional father watched on from the commentary position.

The 18-year-old midfielder has been involved in training with Ralf Rangnick's senior team in recent weeks and Ronaldo has already let him know about the run-ins he had with his dad during his first stint at Old Trafford.

While once again in the gantry as United took on Burnley at Turf Moor on Tuesday, Savage detailed a conversation he had with his son regarding his chat with the five-time Ballon d'Or winner.

"He was talking to my son at the training ground," Savage said on BT Sport.

"He said ‘I played against your dad, he tried to kick me’ but he said ‘he [Robbie Savage] couldn’t catch me.'"

Savage is on commentary duty as United struggle to get past a stubborn Burnley in wet and windy conditions in Lancashire.

United took the lead through an emphatic Paul Pogba finish in a first-half in which they were dominant and had another two goals cruelly disallowed.

The Clarets came out fighting after the break and equalised shortly afterwards through Jay Rodriguez.

Sean Dyche's side nearly took the lead shortly afterwards when the troublesome Wout Weghorst hit a powerful shot from distance which David De Gea had to get down well to save.

Savage was full of praise for the stop and said: "That’s a wonderful strong hand, wonderful, wonderful save."
