Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo becomes first person to hit 400m followers on Instagram

Cristiano Ronaldo holds countless goal-scoring records from his glittering career - but the Manchester United star has now recorded an Instagram first.

Despite turning 37 on Saturday, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner shows no sign of slowing down.

Having completed a sensational return switch to Old Trafford during the summer transfer window - after 12 years with Real Madrid and Juventus - the Portuguese has scored 14 goals in 24 appearances.

That return has taken his staggering career tally for club and country to 803.

While he was unable to inspire Juventus to another Serie A title last season, 2021 was another memorable year for Ronaldo as he broke the men's international senior goal-scoring record.

The Portugal captain has netted 115 times in 184 outings for his country.

It was an achievement that saw him handed special recognition at The Best FIFA awards.

Ronaldo was overlooked for the biggest prizes in that respect as FIFA crowned prolific Bayern Munich and Poland frontman Robert Lewandowski for 2021 - while long-term rival Messi picked up a seventh Ballon d'Or - but Ronaldo will take some matching off-field.

Over his birthday weekend, the United great became the first Instagram user to pass 400million followers.

That marks a staggering rise from the 237million followers he had in September 2021, proving he is revered beyond footballing circles.

American personality and socialite Kylie Jenner is second on that particular list with 308m followers. Messi sits third with 306m followers on the Meta-owned platform.
