Manchester United star can avoid nightmare Premier League ban on one condition

Manchester United know they will be without several key players when they return to Premier League action to face Newcastle.

United host the Magpies at Old Trafford on Monday night in their final match of the calendar year. Ruben Amorim and Co. will be determined to return to winning ways after a run of three consecutive defeats.

Boxing Day saw United lose 2-0 away at Wolves to follow on from the losses at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur and Bournemouth. The results against the Cherries and Wolves leave United in 14th place in the Premier League table as they prepare to face an in-form Newcastle on Monday evening.

Two key players will not be involved in the game as they serve a suspension in the Premier League. Manuel Ugarte will be unavailable after picking up a fifth yellow card of the season against Wolves, while captain Bruno Fernandes is serving a one-game ban after picking up two bookings in the defeat at Molineux.

Another player who is at risk of being handed a suspension in the Premier League is Harry Maguire. The centre-back is currently on four bookings in the top flight and a yellow card against Newcastle would mean that he will miss the trip to Liverpool next week in what would be a major blow.

However, there is a chance that Maguire could avoid being given a one-game suspension in the Premier League thanks to rules in the top flight. United's clash against Newcastle is their 19th league fixture this season, which marks the halfway point of the campaign.
