Manchester United stance on Kobbie Mainoo contract talks amid Barcelona transfer links

Manchester United remain relaxed over Kobbie Mainoo's contract situation as he caps his breakthrough season with a first international tournament with England.

Mainoo has been outstanding for United this season, ending his first year as a first-team member with a goal in the FA Cup final win against Manchester City. Despite making just 35 senior appearances he has already made his England debut and came off the bench in their opening game against Serbia on Sunday night.

The 19-year-old's performances have been so impressive this season that other clubs have started to admire the quality of the Stockport-born midfielder, with Barcelona linked with an interest in Mainoo in the Catalan press. United have made the academy graduate one of their unsellable assets this summer.

But they are in no rush to tie him down to a new deal, while there has been no push from Mainoo's representatives to secure fresh terms. If he excels during Euro 2024 that could strengthen his hand in talks.

Mainoo signed a long-term contract at his boyhood club in February 2023 and that deal still has three years to run on it, with the option of an extra year included. That deal came at a point when he had made just two first-team appearances, playing a total of 77 minutes.

Since then he has emerged as a key figure in Erik ten Hag's side and Mainoo started 27 of the final 28 games in all competitions, scoring five goals across the campaign.
