Manchester United squad vs Brentford includes Edinson Cavani and two academy stars

Youngsters Alejandro Garnacho and Alvaro Fernandez have made Manchester United's matchday squad to play Brentford.

United welcome Brentford to Old Trafford on Monday night and both youngsters will be available for selection just 24 hours after playing in the U23s' 3-1 defeat against Liverpool, in which Fernandez assisted Garnacho for United's only goal. Garnacho and Fernandez started in Merseyside yesterday but both players were substituted with 20 minutes to play.

Argentinian forward Garnacho made his United debut against Chelsea last week with a cameo appearance but Fernandez is yet to make his senior debut for the club. United have three games remaining — against Brentford, Brighton and Crystal Palace — this season and Ralf Rangnick has received calls from fans to play the academy products.

Four teenagers made Rangnick's bench as United drew with Chelsea, however, Hannibal Mejbri and Shola Shoretire, who were both named on the bench in midweek, weren't with the United squad as they met at the Hyatt Hotel on Monday afternoon before kick off.

Edinson Cavani has finally returned to United's squad after another period on the sidelines. Cavani last played in United's defeat against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League in March but he returned to full training last week.

Rangnick had ruled Cavani out of contention for a starting spot tonight. He said: "Is he really a player who could then play against Brentford?' Answer: no," said the interim boss on Friday. Cavani is set to leave on a free transfer at the end of the season after an injury-plagued campaign.
