Manchester United squad numbers available for new signings in January transfer window

Manchester United will almost certainly be looking to add to the squad in the January transfer window.

It's been a terrible start to the campaign where plenty of weaknesses in the squad have been laid bare. A ridiculous number of injuries, as well as Jadon Sancho's bust-up with Erik ten Hag, has heightened the need for reinforcements even further.

United will have a limited budget to work with but will try and bring in some new recruits, even if it's in the loan or free agent market. But for whoever does arrive, it will be slim pickings in the squad number department.

Here are the United squad numbers currently available to new signings.

3 - Eric Bailly's long tenure at United came to an end this past summer when he left for Turkish side Besiktas. Though the centre-back spent last season on loan at Marseille, he still occupied the No.3 which he was handed upon signing for the club in 2016.

The number is up for grabs for the first time in seven years and would be perfect for a defender. Luke Shaw, Patrice Evra and Phil Neville have all worn it in the past.

13 - Unlucky for some, No.13 has been vacant since Lee Grant hung up the gloves in 2022. It's a number usually taken by back-up goalkeepers such as Grant, Anders Lindegaard, Roy Carroll and Mark Bosnich but Park Ji-sung wore it with distinction for six years.

26 - Another number previously worn by a goalkeeper, Dean Henderson wore No.26 until he was sold to Crystal Palace in the summer. Forwards Shinji Kagawa and Gabriel Obertan have worn it too.
