Manchester United squad confirmed for Legends of the North game against Liverpool at Old Trafford

Old Trafford is set for a star-studded afternoon next weekend as a number of Manchester United legends return to take on their Liverpool counterparts.

United face off against their old rivals in the Legends of the North match, with a host of big names confirmed for the game. Legendary captain Bryan Robson will lead the side as manager, with the former midfielder facing a tough task to pick a side from the wealth of options at his disposal.

Raimond van der Gouw, who was part of the 1999 treble-winning side, returns in goal, and will have some of his former team-mates to rely upon in front of him in defence. Wes Brown, Ronny Johnsen, Gary Neville, Mikael Silvestre and Jaap Stam all feature in the squad.

Former United captains Patrice Evra and Antonio Valencia join them, as does John O’Shea. The former Republic of Ireland international knows all about scoring Liverpool, and he’ll be aiming to get himself on the scoresheet once again next weekend.

Midfield sees a return for Class of 92 legends Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes, while Jesper Blomqvist, Karel Poborsky and Quinton Fortune will also be vying for places in the side. And there’s plenty of options in attack for Robson to call upon.

Dimitar Berbatov, Diego Forlan, Louis Saha and Dwight Yorke will all hope to grace the Old Trafford turf once again. Robson will have some attacking nous guiding him as well on the sidelines, with Andy Cole acting as his assistant.

All proceeds from the game will go towards the Manchester United Foundation to aid their work with young people across Greater Manchester. As well as playing at Old Trafford, a return leg is set to follow on
