Manchester United squad blame poor form on 'manager uncertainty'

Manchester United’s squad believe the uncertainty over the managerial position at the club is to blame for the side’s poor form in recent months.

Manchester City put four past their arch rivals on Sunday, leaving United behind Arsenal in fourth, having played two games more than the Gunners.

United have lost just twice in the league since Ralf Rangnick took charge in early December but a number of draws have derailed their season, leaving United as outsiders to finish in the top four.

The board hope to speak to Mauricio Pochettino and Erik Ten Hag in the coming weeks, before making an announcement on an appointment before the end of the season.

But that moment of clarity may prove too late for the players, with the Times saying the damage has already been done as the squad feel the lack of certainty has cost them.

Rangnick was appointed as interim manager in December and even suggested he could be named manager on a full-time basis if he impresses.

But United’s squad have struggled to adapt to his tactics and they’ve struggled to muster the type of spirit needed when times have been tough during matches.

The squad have attributed that to the lack of clarity at the club, with the players unsure who will be in charge or what the team or tactics will look like going forward.

Few supporters will have sympathy with the players, giving it is they who go out on the pitch and they had ‘certainty’ under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for three years.
