Manchester United should have no excuses if they unleash £208m attack without Marcus Rashford

If Marcus Rashford is unavailable for Manchester United on Saturday there will be a concern as to where the goals come from, but that shouldn't be the case when Erik ten Hag is likely to pick a front three costing more than £200million.

Add in Bruno Fernandes as the most attacking midfielder in a 4-2-3-1 and United could field a front quartet that cost £250m, but the burden when it comes to goals has fallen on the shoulders of Rashford, who has 29 of them this season.

If the 25-year-old is out, and Ten Hag didn't sound confident of his chances of featuring, then the Dutchman could turn to Anthony Martial to lead the line once again, having been back on the bench against West Ham. Antony will begin on the right and Jadon Sancho would be the most likely starter on the left, with Alejandro Garnacho an impact substitute at this stage of his recovery.

Ten Hag could always call on Wout Weghorst again, but the combination of Sancho, Antony and Martial is the most likely to start. They have 21 goals between them this season.

Martial is scoring at one every other game, although that is based on a hot streak before the World Cup, but the wingers are netting at 0.25 goals per 90 minutes (Antony) and 0.27 (Sancho). That isn't good enough.

United are yet to get value for money from any of these players. Martial was a £50m forward with a Ballon d'Or clause in his contract that will never come close to being realised. There have been highlights in his eight seasons at the club, but only 86 goals.
