Manchester United set for Arsenal transfer battle and more rumours ahead of key summer

Manchester United face a huge summer in the transfer market with major changes needed under new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his Ineos group.

Erik ten Hag's side have been languishing in sixth for much of the campaign as they struggle for consistency under their Dutch manager. Injuries have played a role but United have looked disorganised on the pitch and are far away from challenging for Premier League glory.

United are likely to need a new centre-back with Raphael Varane's contract expiring this summer and Jonny Evans currently on a short-term deal. A new striker may also be needed with Anthony Martial set to depart at the end of his contract this summer.

And it is claimed that United will battle Arsenal for the signing of Columbus Crew goalkeeper Patrick Schulte if Aaron Ramsdale leaves in the summer. It is claimed by the Daily Mail that Ramsdale is assessing his options as he 'prepares to move on' from the Gunners with both Arsenal and United interested in Schulte.
