Manchester United's transfer spending compared to Man City, Chelsea and other Premier League rivals

Manchester United enjoyed a busy end to their summer transfer window bringing in four players before the 11pm deadline.

Most notable among the new additions was Sofyan Amrabat. The midfielder joined from Fiorentina on loan for a fee of £8.5m.

The Moroccan worked under Erik ten Hag at Utrecht and his arrival concluded United's arrivals in the summer window. According to Transfermarkt, Amrabat's switch from the Serie A giants brought the net spend for the Reds to £176m.

Mauricio Pochettino's side have been the big spenders in the summer transfer window as they look to return to the Champions League this season. Their biggest fee was spent on Brighton and Hove Albion's Moises Caicedo who joined for an initial £100m.

Big money was also splashed on Southampton's defensive midfielder Romeo Lavia, RB Leipzig's Christopher Nkunku and Manchester City's young winger Cole Palmer. While they did sell the likes of Mason Mount and Mateo Kovacic, Chelsea have splashed the cash.

Manchester City

Unlike the red half of Manchester, City's spending has been more measured in this window. Ilkay Gundogan and Riyad Mahrez were the two big names who needed replacing and they managed to do just that by bringing in Kovacic and Jeremy Doku respectively.

Pep Guardiola's big summer transfer was RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol. The Croatian is highly rated after an impressive World Cup and has come in to replace Aymeric Laporte.
