Manchester United’s potential transfer business, line up vs Man City and ownership bids

There are plenty of talking points leading up to Sunday’s derby but the main concern amongst Manchester United fans seems to be the club’s next transfer business.

Several target points still need to be hit, including the need for a new long-term consistent striker. A number of names have been floated about recently. Cody Gakpo held talks with United over the summer and has since hit incredible form for PSV, scoring 10 goals and recorded nine assists in 12 matches.

Goncalo Ramos, who has hit home eight goals for Benfica, is another name linked with Old Trafford. Meanwhile, fans are also talking about Harry Maguire. Reports suggest he is out of this weekend’s clash, although he would have likely been benched anyway.

He faced yet more criticism while on England duty and supporters are debating what future he has as United captain. Ownership bids and Sunday’s line-up is also on the discussion agenda.

On Thursday, MEN Sport's chief United writer, Samuel Luckhurst, hosted a Q&A in an attempt to try and answer as many questions regarding these subjects.

Q: What are the chances of getting Gakpo? Do you see Manchester United getting him in the winter?

SL: I know he can play through the middle but some of the chatter around him was overplayed in the summer as he is too similar to most of the forwards United currently have. The PSV sporting director even recently said there was not that much communication from United, who were offered/discussed dozens of players who were attainable yet never signed them.
