Manchester United's Mason Greenwood to return to Football Manager following Getafe transfer

Mason Greenwood will be reinstated to the Football Manager game, Sports Interactive has confirmed, following the forward's recent loan move to Getafe.

Greenwood was removed from Football Manager 2022 back in February last year following a database update and didn't feature in Football Manager 2023 at all. The 21-year-old was also removed from EA Sports' FIFA 22 in the same month and didn't feature in FIFA 23, but EA Sports has yet to confirm if the striker will feature in its new game, EA Sports FC 24.

As reported by The Athletic, Sports Interactive said in a statement: "Players or officials serving indefinite suspensions from football, for any reason, are removed from Football Manager at the first opportunity.

"When suspensions or playing restrictions are lifted, the player or official will be reinstated in-game at the next scheduled update."

Despite the confirmation that Greenwood will return to the Football Manager games, he's unlikely to be reinstated into the current game FM23, as there's no major database update planned prior to the release of their new game. FM24, the next Football Manager game, is likely to be released in November 2023, so this is likely to be the game in which Greenwood can first be reinstated.

United had been attempting to find Greenwood a transfer away from the club after announcing that he wouldn’t be returning to the squad following an internal investigation into the allegations made against him on social media in January 2022.

The club opened their own review into the events after the Crown Prosecution Service announced in February it had dropped charges of attempted rape, assault and coercive control.
