Manchester United’s legends team, including Wes Brown, Chris Eagles and Luke Chadwick, to play Jim Ward’s Ramsgate Legends XI at Southwood this Sunday

A star-studded side will offer their support to a Kent club this Sunday.

Manchester United Legends - including Wes Brown, Keith Gillespie, Lee Martin, Chris Eagles and Luke Chadwick - are expected to come up against a Ramsgate Legends XI at Southwood, with funds raised planned to support the Thanet team.

It has been arranged by Ramsgate goalkeeping coach Les Cleevely.

“A few years ago, when I was managing Godalming, I got in touch with Russell Beardsmore to raise money for the club,” said Cleevely. “The club were a little bit on their knees.

“I was still playing at the time for Southampton’s Vets. They (Manchester United’s vets side) were brilliant, they brought down people like Lee Sharpe and Wes Brown.

“At Ramsgate, we have got the astro-pitch and they had one date available - Sunday, July 26 - and we’re hoping it will be a good and fun day for the supporters.

“It’s a decent side. They have boys, who have played a good number of games for Manchester United.

“They’re good lads. When we have done it before, we went for something to eat afterwards so it was a good evening.

“Hopefully on the day, if we get good weather, it should be a nice and fun day for everybody.”

Ramsgate’s outfit is likely to feature Ian Pulman, Russell Wilson and Warren Schulz.

With the Rams’ first team planned to be in action against Sittingbourne the day before, Cleevely explained: “Jim Ward is going to manage those boys. He’s well-known at Ramsgate, with the success he had.

“They’re players that have played a good number of games and enjoyed success with Ramsgate in the past.

“When we did the fun day earlier this summer, there was a barbecue, although we’re not sure we will do one on Sunday. But everybody supports it.
