Manchester United's Cody Gakpo move 'hinges on one thing' and more transfer rumours

Manchester United's hopes of signing Cody Gakpo from PSV reportedly depend on the outcome of the Dutch side's Champions League match against Rangers.

According to the Daily Record, Gakpo has been told that he will not be sold under any circumstances ahead of the two-legged tie with Rangers. It is believed that a decision on the winger's future will not be made ahead of the clashes, meaning United will not know whether they can sign the player until Wednesday, August 24 - just one week before the transfer deadline.

PSV beat Monaco this week thanks to an extra-time goal from Luuk de Jong to progress to the next round of qualifiers for Europe's most prestigious tournament, prolonging United's wait to try and secure Gakpo's services. It now seems that Erik ten Hag will have to line up alternative options in the meantime should the club run out of time to secure a deal.

Elsewhere, Italian journalist Romeo Agresti captured the moment John Murtough was seen arriving at Turin airport to fly back to Manchester after holding talks with Adrian Rabiot's mother and agent.

Veronique Rabiot met with Murtough to discuss a deal for the player to join Ten Hag's side. According to Tuttosport (as per Football Italia), the player is asking for around €8-10million (£6.75-8.5million) net, per season.

This figure is reportedly beyond what United are willing to pay and the belief is that Murtough's negotiations with Rabiot's mother were centred on bringing this amount down. Although an agreement has still not been reached, the fact the pair met in person should give cause for optimism that a deal can be reached, as long as both parties show a willingness to compromise.
