Manchester United’s Casemiro problem signals Erik ten Hag transfer priority as Brighton pair emerge

If Manchester United's reported transfer targets are in fact true, then this summer looks set to be one of major investment and an exciting period for supporters.

Erik ten Hag is expected to sanction at least two major signings at United, with a world-class goalscorer and a ball-playing No.8 top of the summer shopping list. The Dutchman is open to improving across the board, with a new centre-back and right-back a possibility, given the uncertain futures of those currently in position.

United look to have cast their net far and wide, particularly in midfield where everyone from Jude Bellingham to James Ward-Prowse has reportedly been of interest. On Sunday morning, the Telegraph added Brighton and Hove Albion duo Moises Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister to that list.

The pair have formed one of the league's best midfield units this season alongside Pascal Groß, with Caicedo sweeping up everything in his path and allowing Argentinian World Cup winner Mac Allister to progress the ball forward and create chances.

Two very different profiles suggest Ten Hag is looking at more than one midfield addition, but with the report adding that Brighton will demand at least £70million for each, a double-swoop will be far from simple. Both signed fresh contracts this season and the south coast side have repeatedly held their ground against approaches from the league's elite.

Ten Hag would likely be forced to make a decision on which Seagull he wants to pursue, and his side's struggles without Casemiro suggest Caicedo should be the target.
