Manchester United's Bruno Fernandes reacts to his concerning record after Portugal win

Manchester United's Bruno Fernandes claimed he 'does not think about getting tired' after playing his 69th match of the season.

Fernandes was excellent for United this season and he was the de facto captain in the absence of Harry Maguire. The midfielder was instrumental in the team's progress and he won praise for his durability throughout the campaign.

The 28-year-old played the most games of any player in Europe's top five leagues, playing 5,900 minutes, which is significantly more than the player who recorded the second-most minutes with 4,500 (Inter Milan's Lautaro Martinez).

Fernandes' robustness is impressive and he showed no signs of slowing down on Saturday night when playing for Portugal.

Portugal defeated Bosnia 3-0 in that game and Fernandes scored twice and assisted the other goal in a complete performance.

"I was fresh, now less fresh, but I will recover. Later I'll have my rest, but I always want to play and give my best. I don't want to think about being tired," Fernandes told Sport TV.

"It was a great win, these are difficult games and we have to make them easy, as we did. I'm pleased to have scored, but the most important thing was getting the three points. We want to be in the European Championship."

Portugal manager Roberto Martinez also discussed the impact of the long season, adding: "Today was a typical June stage game, with mental fatigue. The players were at a high level physically, it was a difficult game against a team with very clear ideas/.

"We need to be together, to learn, to play as a team. We need games like this to keep growing. We must enjoy the victory, then we will think about Iceland."
