Manchester United's best option when choosing David de Gea replacement is obvious

David de Gea may well have played his last match as Manchester United's first-choice goalkeeper.

The Spaniard is expected to sign a new deal at United in the coming weeks and while his Old Trafford career is expected to be extended, his time as the club's go-to goalkeeper looks to be over.

Erik ten Hag recently revealed that the Spaniard will no longer be a guaranteed starter and so the hunt for his replacement has clearly already started.

A few names have emerged as potential targets for the club. MEN Sport recently revealed that United are interested in a move for Anderlecht's Bart Verbruggen. The 20-year-old is an undoubted talent and has had a good season in Belgium.

During the 2021/22 campaign, the 'keeper made 37 appearances for Anderlecht, conceding 45 goals and amassing 13 clean sheets in the process, also receiving a call-up to the Netherlands squad and being named the Belgian side's player of the season.

A price tag of around the £15million mark has been mentioned- that's a relatively low figure for a goalkeeper who has potential and could go on to one day become United's next No.1.

However, the obvious gamble would be Verbruggen's inexperience and the fact he hasn't played in England before. It was something that United discovered to their cost at times when De Gea made the move from Atletico Madrid.

Moving up the scale of potential De Gea replacements, Porto's Diogo Costa is another candidate. At 23 he is more experienced and has more general game time under his belt than Verbruggen, as well as being a fully-fledged Portugal international.
