Manchester United release Amad injury statement - 'we know you've got this'
Manchester United have released a statement confirming that Amad has sustained an ankle injury in training.
It was reported on Saturday that the attacker had sustained the problem in training before Amad confirmed the injury on social media. "Extremely disappointed to be writing this message in such a crucial time of the season," he wrote on Instagram.
"Unfortunately, I will be out for some time with an injury. I will come back stronger than ever!! Time to support the boys from the outside. Still loads to play for."
On Sunday morning, ahead of the afternoon Premier League clash with Tottenham, United released a statement confirming the injury on X, formerly Twitter. "We can confirm that Amad has sustained an ankle injury in training that is expected to keep him out for a number of weeks," a statement read.
"Setbacks are set-ups for comebacks, @AmadDiallo_19 - we know you've got this."
Amad has emerged as one of United's best players this season with nine goals and seven assists. Since Ruben Amorim's arrival in November, the 22-year-old has played in the advanced role before the striker as well as wing-back in the 3-4-3 system.
The reports on Saturday claimed he could miss the rest of the season but United's statement suggests the injury may only force him to miss 'a number of weeks' of action.
Amad's injury comes after Kobbie Mainoo, Manuel Ugarte and Toby Collyer all sustained problems that will see them miss the trip to north London on Sunday. They join Luke Shaw, Mason Mount, Lisandro Martinez and Jonny Evans in the treatment room at Carrington.
