Manchester United player ratings this season so far as Raphael Varane and Christian Eriksen great
David de Gea
Let some soft goals in against Brighton and Brentford where he looked uncomfortable with the ball at his feet but has recovered respectably with three clean sheets. Made some good saves against Liverpool and Leicester. 6
Diogo Dalot
Only one of two outfield players who have started all eight games and he has improved in defence and attack, helping United keep three clean sheets and assisting Bruno Fernandes at Southampton. 8
Raphael Varane
United's most important player. They have conceded two goals in 495 minutes with Varane on the pitch, won all five games he has started and lost the three he hasn't started. 9

Lisandro Martinez
Recovered from a chastening start to impose himself superbly against Liverpool and he has been excellent ever since. His distribution is as much of an asset as his uncompromising defending. 8
Harry Maguire
Was okay in defeat to Brighton but aimless in the thrashing by Brentford and has not regained his place. Even his brief appearance against Arsenal was marred by a cynical booking. 3
Victor Lindelof
Played only once due to injury and was untroubled at centre-back in the first-half against Real Sociedad but struggled at right-back in the second. 5
Tyrell Malacia
Unfortunate not to start the season and has shown why with his performances since. Had a taxing time against Bukayo Saka but still emerged with credit. 8
Luke Shaw
Fortunate to start the season and it showed against Brighton and Brentford, where he was hauled off at the pause. Had a minor foot injury and has not started since. 2
Scott McTominay
The best thing that happened to him was he was dropped at Brentford after an awful display against Brighton.
